Not sure what the numbers say but if there's a 10 foot putt needed to be made I'm betting on Tiger. It would be hard to argue with that (but I'm sure someone will now).

Mangum has some not so flattering things to say about this stat.

That's quite okay. All I did was copy and paste for the most part. It's not like it's my own intellectual property. I'm sure most understand this, but those apprehensive about situations like this...feel free to post it here. Or if in doubt, just make a quick credit to my site.

I read this article in the paper a few days ago, and the intent behind the new stat is very interesting, and would seem hard to argue with. Maybe some people would have problems with the variables included.

I like the idea of judging how each player fares relative to the TOUR average in different categories.

That's the thing though, this will be a Tour specific stat. No way the average joe can somehow compare themselves to this stat.
Moving the hands towards the target....is death.

    Absolutely.

But the one thing I was thinking was instead of looking at say how Phil Mickelson putts or Steve Stricker putts and trying to learn from them, we can start looking at the far better putters like Luke Donald, Aaron Baddeley, etc.

And, more specifically, start looking at how they're strong in certain areas: Putts gained as it pertains to short putts, Putts gained as it pertains to long putts, etc. I like that the stat can be more situational, and not depend on other factors as much (like proximity to the hole, etc.).

    Default MIT

If the dudes at MIT are on the case, it means something. not dummies. I seen it for myself. Funnily enough, when I was there, I was walking down the hall, looking into the rooms full of stuff, and i passed this guy doing the same.... I recognized him coz he was sitting next to Ben Doyle the whole time I was there, and i was like who is that guy....
three guesses who `that guy was......
