100 yard shot

Ok, one thing I'm going to work on this year is a 100 yard shot. Something I can hit and be confident with. This is something I've never had and I think it could help my game TREMENDOUSLY. In years past I've never "set up" my next shot. I'm thinking like a "little" PW maybe? Possible a full GW. I'll have to experiment. What do you guys think? Do you have one?

It is a great asset if you have one (in my experience anyway). The course I grew up playing made you have one, so I learned to hit all different kinds. Right now, I actually have three:

1. Full 53* wedge
2. Grip down as much as I need to (about 2/3) to take a full swing with my PW
3. Grip PW normally, and make a 9 to 3 swing

Just try out a bunch of things until you find something that works for you. I think it will help a lot.

I've been debating about swinging easier or choking down as well. I think, at least for me, the choking down would be easier. Have time, will play...

My preferred 100yd shot is almost a full gap wedge. It comes in very handy on the course. I used to dread 110-60yds. After practicing and getting some wedges that fit my swing I'm very comfortable from that distance.

Also I practice hitting 50 and 100 yard shots with all my irons but rarely hit these shots on the course. If needed I feel I could use a 7i to hit a 100yd shot on the course.

I really worked on this last year, and it helps so much having confidence from that distance, not only do you get on more greens, you have less chips and hopefully shorter putts. I prefer a full swing with a gap wedge, but find what your comfortable with and go with that.
