2 Hours with Brian today

Had a great lesson in Louisville today with the man. First, why I went. I've actually been scoring pretty well(mid and some low 70's) but I always feel like it's "fake". I mean I don't really hit what I would call solid shots. I have been hitting the driver well but then just skank something on or around the green and two putt for par or chip up and sink a putt but haven't had hardly any birdies. I knew it was time for a change because I just couldn't figure it out on my own.
In comes Brian, turns out I was swinging way too far to the right so we did some drills like the yellow brick road and the water bottle drill and even though it felt weird as heck, by the end of the day I hit a couple fades with the driver that were pretty solid. I think Brian was running out of ideas on how to get me to swing left but I just couldn't for the longest time. I still have alot of work ahead of me but for the first time in a year I feel like I'm on the right track.
Then there's the stories, I could listen the the stories all day from him. He shared some neat little stuff about Trevino and thoughts on some top pro's and instructors that is cool because it's not the kind of stuff you read everyday so to wrap it up, had a great lesson and if you're on the fence about lessons I suggest you make the effort.

Drills?

" we did some drills like the yellow brick road and the water bottle drill"

-these are new to me. What did he have you doing? Was the H2O bottle drill the same that VJ does? Can't come up with anything from the Wizard of Oz though?

Yellow brick road is a bit hard to explain in text but it's basically say 5 balls laying on the grass with some 2 feet between each one in a curved path that the clubhead should travel after impact into follow through. At impact the clubhead is at ball 1, the hands should point towards ball 2 from your point of view and the belt buckle should point at ball 3. I thought I remembered seeing this in building blocks and maybe never hook again? Water bottle drill was VJ's and Brian did credit him for it. That's one thing I like about Brian, if credit goes to someone else and not him, he gives it to them. I think it shows good character.

Yellow brick road is in the Never Hook Again video short, where brian lays down all the balls and tells you how you need to follow them.

I believe at the time he wasn't calling it the yellow brick road.

Gotcha......I have NHA so I'll review. I would like to get back to my old fade as well. Thanks

That's pretty impressive to be shooting in the 70's with an unsatisfying swing, and few birdies.
Just don't lose that scrambling touch, when you start to stripe it. ;)
I'm the oppsoite, lately, my swing has been up and down, but I've improved on my up & downs, and have had 2-3 birdies per my last few rounds to keep me in the 80's.
Glad the lesson went well.

Update

Hit a couple buckets of balls this morning and changes are defiantly happening. What's funny is I just got fitted for a new driver and picked it up Friday night but now it's useless because I can actaully get a good amount of loft on the ball. Was playing a 12 deg driver with my swing right swing but I'm sure I'll go back down to the 10 deg range now. Started hitting some real solid shots that I haven't hit in a year or so. I'm sooo glad I went:)

Believe me Chris it was ALL short game. Think about it this way, if you only hit 4 greens this leaves 14 chances at up and downs and if you get up and down just half the time that's 7 over or a 79. This is mainly a full swing site and I love it for that but no one can discount the importance of short game.

That's exciting for you. Improve your long/mid game, keep your short game and you are heading down a road most will never get to.

I'll see you there some day! Just quit my job and am going back to school full time. Our income dropped by 70% so my funds for golf will be limited. I'm in IA and would love to go see Brian but just can't afford it right now.

Once again, congrats!
