You can blame the USGA for the lack of purse information - they've always used an unconventional (IE vastly different from the PGA Tour standard) prize money distribution system. And this year, they've elected not to announce the tournament's purse in advance.

The goals for players in today's final round of the 105th US Open

1 .. WIN (no-brainer) A US Open win will give you--

_ 10 years of invitations to the event itself
_ 5 years of invitations to the Masters, British Open, PGA Ch, Players Ch
_ 5 years of PGA Tour Primary Exempt Status

»» If you are not the champion, then your goals are to --

2 .. Finish among the Top 15 and Ties to earn 2006 US Open Invitation
3 .. Finish among the Top 8 and Ties to earn 2006 Masters Invitation

Jason Gore has an additional goal -- If he finishes no worse than a 3-way tie for 2nd, he'll be eligible for PGA Tour Special Temporary Membership, which means he can accept an unlimited number of sponsor invitations, as well as Top-10 and Ties Exemptions.
