3/4 Backswing

In watching the better amateur senior golfers they tend to have a 3/4 backswing with a full shoulder turn and full wrist angle. They then have a beautiful pivot through the ball. Their swings look simple, have minimal motions and total control. I do not notice any lack of distance. Is there a advantage in this type of pattern? My guess is that a shorter back swing is less likely to go off plane and it is less likely to lose the angle. Is it easier to float load doing this? Any validity into any of the advantages I mentioned.

My swing's fairly short. (though I usually play with an open stance) I would call myself a fairly long hitter.

It's shorter when I wanna do a "drop and hit it." (float load with added force against the shaft in downswing)

(vs. a "pull from the top")

I don't have lots of wrist cock though.

A shorter armswing works wonders for my pattern because it requires less time for me to drop my right arm into position (not a feel!) than a longer swing.
