3 problems all caused by the same thing?

This is my first post here. I have been browsing for a while though. I am not much in way of knowledge of TGM but it appears that many here are good at explaining things. My three issues are:

1. My transition at the top. It feels like there is no transition. It feels like my upper body just outraces my lower body to the ball. Kind of like my swing starts with my upper body instead of the lower body leading the swing down.

2. I have seen myself on video. Obviously I am not letting the clubhead lag in the downswing. I know this is a must for TGM but I have also felt it was a must for any type of approach to learning the golf swing. I have always felt that there really is no shot in golf that you wouldnt want that lag.

3. The final thing is, I have no release. I chicken wing through impact. The times I do not chicken wing in order to hold the clubface square, I hit pull hooks that fly 40 yards left of the target.

Are these things all related to one issue such as a breakdown somewhere along the way in my swing?

TIA

So, the upper body starting the downswing is a sub concious effort to get the clubface square at impact, and the chicken wing is another subconcious move because my mind or hands etc have figured out at impact that ut oh, the clubface is closed already and I am about to hit the ball 40 yards left?
