Man..............these guys are ridiculous.

...

...

And besides all their yelling- they can really hit it too...

;)

Nice compilation though.

Some of those guys were here locally in a qualifier. 411 was the longest drive.... not over an inch of rain fell the night before

It is very humbling to see where there balls land on a hole you play twice a week. Last year one put his drive in a green side bunker on a par five.

I've said this before, but seeing these guys in person is something different. In person, it dosen't seem like they would hit it as far as they do. You look at them and think, "He dosen't look like he's swinging so much faster than me, and he isn't as big as a minute, so why is he hitting it by me 70 yards???"

We have a guy at our range who is a long driver. It's sick to watch him swing a smooth 130-140mph. He uses a swing speed radar to track each drive. It's pretty interesting to see range balls carry 300-320 yards consistently. One day we were hitting into a 15mph wind and he was still carrying the ball 270ish. The range guys have to go to the back of the range (ditch area) and use a tube to collect all the balls he hits back there.

Two questions:

Does he yell and stomp around after every drive?

And what kind of driver and shaft does he use?
In reference to the guy I was refering to:

No stomping or yelling. He's actually a pretty quiet guy. Though people gather around to watch him and it's funny to see how many people bag their driver and pick up a wedge or iron until after he leaves. When people ask him how to hit it that far he says - "Stay loose. If you have any tension you're going to lose distance and control."

His driver heads range between Krank El Diablo's, Alpha's, and the old Cobra's LD heads they no longer make. He comes to the range with a half dozen drivers ever time. The shafts are all V2 LD shafts I think XXX. Even with those shafts and 5-7.5* degree heads he still gets the ball way up in the sky with a slight draw.

I was talking to him the other day. He's cut some of his drivers from 50" to 47" and picked up his average distance. He controls it much better now. Still hits the upper 130's and lower 140's mph.

I think you look at longdriving as more similar to a track&field throwing event than a golf tournament, the yelling and so forth dosen't seem all that unusual. Remember, this is max physical effort or close to that, and it's also a high-pressure situation. An explosive reaction to a big hit shouldn't be a surprise.

BTW, as an experiment, I was testing my swing speed, trying to figure ways to increase it. I promise, one of the things that I did was grunt loudly during the swing, and it got me 3-5 miles an hour! It isn't something I would do on the course.

I don't think Zuback yells.

Who knows...the martial arts guys do it. Maybe there is something to it.

Some of this is over the top though. I had to laugh at the guy @ 5:30...

FSN Sport Science show did a test where a martial artist tried breaking a stack of bricks either with yelling or without. He easily broke the entire stack while yelling, but didn't when he was silent.
