Here is the pattern - Homer points out that it is mechanically superior but needs most attention and skill to learn.

WARNING - this may get a bit bookish!!;)

GRIP_BASIC A - OVERLAP
GR IP TYPE B- STRONG SINGLE
STROKE – BASIC B – SLAP ( NOW CALLED PITCH)
STROKE – VARIATION C-4 FOUR BARREL
PLANE LINE E- CLOSED/CLOSED
PLANE ANGLE BASIC A- ELBOW
PLANE ANGLE – VARIATION C - DOUBLE SHIFT
FIX A – STANDARD
ADDRESS A – STANDARD
HINGE ACTION D- DUAL HORIZONTAL
PRESSURE POINT COMBINATION D-1 FOUR POINT
PIVOT A – STANDARD
SHOULDER TURN A – STANDARD
HIP TURN A- STANDARD
HIP ACTION A – STANDARD
KNEE ACTION A- STANDARD
FOOT ACTION A- STANDARD
WRIST ACTION A- STANDARD
LAG LOADING C – DRAG
TRIGGER TYPE E – WRIST THROW
POWER PACKAGE ASSEMBLY POINT C- END
POWER PACKAGE LOADING ACTION C- SNAP
POWER PACKAGE DELIVERY PATH D – TOP ARC AND ANGLED LINE
POWER PACKAGE RELEASE E- AUTOMATIC SNAP

Why does he use closed / closed plane line???

Interesting that he thought that max. mechanical advantage came from standard knee action ( a bit of straightening)... but not surprising...

The same edition has 3 barrel stroke which is for drive loading ( hitting) with zero plane angle variation and Turned shoulder plane ( similar to 6th /seventh edition of TGM hitting stroke) ... he did not put forward a pattern for 3 barrel swinging but he did a pattern for putting ( 2 versions)....

If swinging is easiest and 4 barrels very difficult... why no 3 barrel swing??

ANy thoughts please. Thanks:)

Max advantage definitely comes from standard knee action

We all need to understand is that these are just samples, he was not saying do this or do that, just including samples...

The closed - closed plane plane line would be like a snead or hogan with a driver. In Homer's studio he had a swing sequence of snead and hogan with a driver.

When reading, remember they are just samples

Thanks Mike,

I know that they are not prescriptive...

But why do you think he dropped it... is it because everyone thought it was "THE" TGM swing and if they couldn't make it work for them then TGM was rubbish??

By giving samples you miss the main message of TGM which is the imperatives...?

Just putting thoughts out for discussion rather than trying to change the world!:) ... thats on my list of things to do next week!

Any 4 barrel switters in the history of the PGA tour?

Is this pattern best served with radial accl?

glcoach...(and others),

The fact of the matter is that there are probably more "4-barrel" golfers on tour than any other combination.

You need all four out there.

I will ask some smart folks about that this week at MIT. Science in the end, will make me look pretty smart.:D
