Why do they build it up to 7500+ yards, but then not use 'em? Does everyone also get a "participation" trophy at the end?

Certainly does not have the feel of a US Open. Rory is playing out of his mind. Let the media slurpfest begin.

I'll be honest, I hate the really over the top U.S. Open setups. I like it when the fairways are tight BUT the rough is such that you can recover IF you have the guts. The long goofy rough EVERYWHERE around the green and fairway gets old quick. My favorite U.S. Open setup is probably Pinehurst.

this open is as boring as they come and it starts with the course. obviously Rory is playing incredible golf, but the weather did not give Congressional what it needs to defend par. Greens have no fire, rough is like a tour event, fairways are way too wide for a US Open. I hope they get pissed and really make next years course a bear.

Mike Davis will have some people unhappy with him at the USGA. For decades the US open had a distinct set up unlike any other tournament. He's turned it into a PGA at Valhalla.

I think if not for Rory running away from the field, it would be a great shoot out tomorrow. Not typical US Open fair, but there's a ton of guys stacked up behind Rory now that are gonna be battling for 2nd.

I think the setup is fine. The rain really softened this course up. Without the rain and without Rory, I'll bet right around even would still win it. As is (without Rory) you would still be going into Sunday with 15+ guys with a legit chance to win, including an amateur.

But Rory is just lights out.

If it rains Wednesday and Thursday at Pebble that year, Tiger shoots 20 under and Jiminez shoots 4 under, do we hear people complaining about the setup at Pebble?

Everyone is playing the same course. The USGA has done as good a job as they could have on Congressional with this much rain. They have already said that golf in Washington in June was likely going to be wet. It's not Rory's fault that the golf course is wet and soft. Everyone else could be hitting most every green and fairway, but they are not. The fact of the matter is that Rory is just in another world right now and unless he falls out of orbit again, this thing is over.

And duck is right. If it rained at Pebble in 2000, Tiger still wins huge. When a guy gets on this kind of roll and has this much talent, they make everyone else look like scrubs.

Heck guys....we should be excited about this Open. If Rory wins and shoots under par in the final round we will be witnessing history live and in color. That doesn't happen very often.

If not for Rory this would be a tight, down to the wire finish. Reminds me of the '97 Masters and '00 U.S. Open for obvious reasons. While the conditions are not typical for the U.S.Open, Rory is absolutely on fire. Haven't seen this many club twirls outside of a Tiger domination.
