Got a 7 year old grandson starting to play golf that is left-handed. Can swing the club from both sides equally well. Start him left-handed or right- handed and why?

Both. Let him decide. You could figure out his eye dominance too and decide based on that.
It would be cool if he hit driver left handed and irons righty.

Sorry if this is redundant from an earlier post. Highly recommend you let the child choose for himself. Do some research into “Cross Dominance” and you will find the problems that can arise from forcing a child to perform in a manner contrary to their preferred dominance. (Effects concentration span, mental processing, mood, motor neuron establishment). I went through this with my son and was fortunate to catch the problems early enough to correct the problems that were developing when trying to make him a right hander instead of his preferred left. Many children will exhibit ambidextrous behavior in their early years. Let them find their preference.

My kid, now 13, is left footed and right handed. From very early, 2 years old or thereabouts, he kicked a ball left footed and swung a club left handed. We first
discovered this when he got his hands on a little plastic club and swung it left handed hitting the plastic ball with the back of the club. Of course I picked him up
put him on the "right" side of the ball where he promptly toddled back to the "left" side and smacked the ball down the yard. I realised he wanted to hit it left
handed and let him at. Since then he has continued left handed and has become a decent player. Sure he doesnt and maybe wont have the same range of
equipment available to him but his natural instinct was to be a lefty and why fight nature. Funnily he became a Phil fan without knowing that phil is right handed
playing lefty.

I have a 5 year old that is lefty but because he sees his brother and myself swing righty that's what he does. He pounds the baseballs and if he likes golf I'll just let him go with it.

If he starts throwing baseballs right handed I'll chop that hand right off!

He'll probably figure it out on his own. I'm lefthanded, and do everything left handed, except swing a golf club or bat. It always just felt right.

I like the idea of letting him choose, buy a left and right youth 7 iron and see what one he likes to play with best. I don't think the disparity between left and right equipment is near what it used to be...I know back in the early 90's when I was selling golf equipment it was hard to get lefty youth clubs and there was only a couple of manufactures who made them.
