78 from the tips!

Bogied 4 out of the last 5 holes today to break 80 for the first time this year and to shoot 78 from the tips (7100 yards, Par 72). I got nervous when I thought I was going to shoot 74 or 75 and choked. But I owe ALL of it to our dear friend Brian Manzella and you guys on this forum.

- Good pivot, maintain right thigh angle, and lag the clubhead to the inside aft quadrant of the ball and keep a steady head. My new mantra.

VERY IMPORTANT:

"archie" was taught NEVER SLICE AGAIN (he was a hacker/slicer).

He learned it.

He hooked it.

I taught him NEVER HOOK AGAIN.

He didn't hook it anymore.

He saw some hogan video.

He copied it.

He came to me last week for me to 'bless' it.

I did.

78.

Moral of the story:

HE COULD HAVE NEVER LEARNED TO 'SWING LIKE HOGAN' WITHOUT PASSING THROUGH THE OTHER TWO GATES, WITHOUT YEARS OF MORE WORK.

A method to my madness. ;)

Good job !! Can you elaborate on the "maintain right thigh angle"? What were you typical scores before your TGM journey?

"Maintain the right thigh angle" is a swing thought in trying to achieve a good backswing pivot. Redgoat talks about the right thigh here: http://redgoat.smugmug.com/gallery/141697

My right hip actually moves slightly targetward on the backswing as I transfer my weight to my right foot. I turn my left shoulder over my 'maintained right thigh angle.' From there, if I can lag the clubhead to the inside aft quadrant of the ball while keeping my head back and transferring my weight to my left foot, I will hit a half-way decent shot if I am tapping my right toe on the ground at finish with a straightened left leg.

How's that for a swing thought?

P.S. Pre-Brian/TGM I was a 14 HCP and I am a 10 HCP now trending to an 8. I shot 81 today with 3 double bogies- ball migrated too far back in my stance and it took me a couple of holes to recognize that.

P.P.S. And this is the Hogan video I mimick: http://www.megspace.com/sports/moetown/videos/hogan_side_clip2.html

Are you sure??

Brian???

What throws me off is his plane and when he talks about the chest connection with his upper left arm/chest: "Like you can't fit a razorblade in there."

Ok, to update, I shot another 78 today and since I posted this topic thru today I had 81, 89, 83, & 82 and a solo 39 on nine. (Tees on this course are rated/sloped @ 72.3/130) Pitching lesson from Brian was great. You need to see him about the "quickset" on pitches and how to minimize distance hands must travel-- bounce, bounce, check-up. I am trending to an 8, down from 14. 100% of reduction is attributable to Brian and this forum.

This TGM stuff is great. It allows me to catalog my swing. I don't have to adopt a specific pattern-- I just know what my pattern is.

Now if I could just make the 3-5 footers I could go low.....hard to teach touch, huh, Brian.
