A Few Questions

I posted this on another forum and didn't get much response. Perhaps I will have better results here. Thanks to all.

I appreciate any help you all may be able to offer. I might have been better off making multiple posts for the various questions. Here goes:

1. I use what most would consider an extremely strong grip. I stand farely upright with my feet just inside my shoulders.

2. I hit my 6I about 180 yards, 7 about 170, 8 about 160 and so forth with a L-wedge at 90 to 100.

3. I cannot get the distance in my 5I that would seem incremental as with my other irons. I might get about 150 out of it on a good day. My 3 and 4 irons are horrible so they spend the round or practice session in the bag. I would like to be able to hit my 5I well.

4. My driver, 3 and 5 wood, and hybrid are consistantly pulled left. If it isn't a pull it is a nasty hook. I believe this come from having such a strong left grip. Advice needed here.

5. I am very pleased with my mid to short iron and wedge play, but would like to be able to use my woods, driver and hybrid(to replace the 3 and 4 irons)

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you are too strong on that grip, ball way too far back, and are swinging quite steeply with throwaway.

Start by reading Brian's grip article and hitting chip shots left hand only, then right hand only. A little less 'down' and a little more 'out' to the right in feel.

Adress a ball with a 5 iron in yur hands. Then rotate the club in your hands so that the toe faces the ball, rather than the clubface, then regrip this alignment. Now , try to hit the ball straight about 50 yards or so. Notice the powerful subconsious adjustment that takes place. Notice the hands and arms and what they must do to hit the ball straight. Now resume your normal grip and clubface alignment and hit balls with the same action as before. the cut shot is a tough one for me. This taught me crash course the hinging nessecary to not go left. Beware of left wrist breaking down.
