A Question on Grip Pressure

Mandrin posted this in another thread:

"In golf the erroneous misconception about loading the shaft, such as claimed by TGM and elsewhere, is quite likely due to referring to the behavior of the shaft tightly clamped in a vise. However the soft bio-mechanical tissues of the hand make the shaft behave quite different in a golf swing. A matter of mechanical impedance mismatching."

It got me to thinking. Can you load the shaft more with a firmer grip? Would you sacrifice trigger delay by doing so? I think the answer to both is yes, but thinking and knowing are very different things. Interested to hear what you think, or know.

I would say "Yes" to your first question and "No" to you second.

Although...

We're all made up differently. Some are strong as hell and others, not so. What's firm to one person isn't firm to another. I would 'guess' that a shaft would load more in a firmer grip. Keep in mind the old saying, "Strong fingers, supple wrists."

As far as trigger delay; there are way more elements involved than merely grip (finger) firmness.
