Hi all, I am having a problem. When I get to the main website and click forums it says page cannot be displayed. I have to go to the bottom of the page and click the #1 then click main forum, main forum, and new posts to get in the forum. Anyone know why or how to fix this problem. Walt

I have the same problem.

This has been my solution: bookmark this url: http://www.brianmanzella.com/forum/

Before it would have a lot of extra stuff on the end and would say server not found.

The site doesn't work well with vista and IE for me, so I'm using my XP computer and FireFox. BTW Vista is junk...

No it aint, you are probably trying to run it on an old computer not designed to handle it or with insufficient resources.
But let's keep this to a golfing discussion :)

WALT:
Have you tried deleting your cookies and clearing your internet explorer cache?
Assuming Internet explorer, it's under the "tools" menu.
Tools-->Internet Options, depending on the version of I.E. you have there will be a button available there to delete your cookies and an option to clear your internet cache.

Try that and report back.

PS what Self Mastery has suggested will work, but it's always best to diagnose and solve the root cause of the problem.

I just wish I could apply that to my golf :(

Slicey, I tried all of the above you mentioned and it still doesn't let me in "Page Cannot be Found". The only way in to forum is the way self-mastery recommended.

At the main page, if you right click "Forums" and open in a new page or new tab, what happens? It should show the same url SM listed and hopefully works. If it doesn't work then more debugging is needed.

I bought two new computers: One with Vista, and one with XP.

The vista box has been nothing, but trouble. Download this driver that driver... BLAH

yeah, Im having the same problem, at both my home computer, and work... both firefox, both XP.... but meh, i can still get in...

I don't know why anyone on this planet wpuld still use IE....

If you want trojans, hackers, etc into your computer continue using it.....otherwise use Firefox.....

Hmmm....

As I said, this should remain a GOLF discussion forum, but my 2c on the Vista and IE thing, only because I sense a bit of mass hysteria with little informed arguement, and if there's one thing I LOVE :) it's informed arguement.
Stop reading now if you aren't interested.

I have ALL of the Microsoft Certifications, (NO, I am NOT a one eyed MS fanboi) I am the Brian Manzella (big call I know) equivalent in MS Training (very similar styles which is why I like it around here) and I own a Microsoft Gold Certified company with 5 tech's and a client base of around 3000 PC's and about 300 servers, both government and corporate.
I have been around since DOS, seen Windows 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, ME (BLEH) NT, 2000, 2003 and 2008.
I have facilitated technical sessions at MS conferences.

I'm a crap golfer.

IE is only an issue if you don't have the latest Windows updates, OR if you frequent shall we say "unsavoury" websites.
EVERYONE regardless of browser prefference should always maintain a DECENT (not free) anti virus software. THE MOST malicious virus type that exists today is directed at LINUX, and has been for about 5 years that we know of. Google "rootkit".

There are also plenty of malicious attacks out there for MAC's.

If something seems too good to be true (POPUP, "Hey, I can make your computer faster, CLICK ME!!" POPUP, "free anti virus CLICK ME!!!") and you click on it..... I have a nice bridge for sale.
A little bit of common sense, and a bit of education goes a long way.

I was a beta tester for Vista (you may argue that YOU still are :) ) In my experience having 6 PC's at home running it, 10 in my office and about 400 amongst my client base, the issues are NOT with Vista but with third party drivers.

For example you have a 3 year old scanner, a 5 year old printer and some wierd a$$ tablet device that you bought 2 or 3 years ago.
Will Vista recognise them? probably not.
Is that Vista's fault?

I don't think so, but neither do I think it's the hardware manufacturers fault.
A line has to be drawn somewhere, and the hardware manufactureres have to decide what hardware they are going to update their drivers for, and what they are not going to update drivers for.
It is always a finacial decision, "should we spend money updating the drivers for our 5 year old equipment"?

Can you still get parts for the Ford Edsel? Yes you probably can but why would you want to?
It's the same concept, when it's time to move on, out with ALL of the old and in with the new.

We could go on for hours, and I do in other forums, let's NOT here because it will just bore everyone to death.

The bottom line is, if you use a new operating system without first checking for hardware driver compatibility (with the hardware vendor, not the pimply faced kid in the computer store) then you are asking for trouble.

If you use any operating system without Anti virus software then you are asking for trouble.

If you don't keep your operating system and browser patched ( they ALL have vulnerabilities) then you are asking for trouble.

If you frequent dodgy websites, well, you get the picture by now :)

That's probably more than 2c worth, and I am not trying to put anyone down, or dis anyones operating system or browser of choice, but as in all things use some common sense and be safe.

SOLVED

I see what the problem might be, becuase it just happened for me. It's some DNS setting the BM staff needs to take care of.

You can access the site without www, as just brianmanzella.com, and then the forum link shows but does not work: brianmanzella.com/forum

Alternatively using www, if you start at the site as Brian Manzella Golf Academy - manzella_homepage and then click the forum link, it shows: www.brianmanzella.com/forum and DOES work.

ONLY with the ww prefix can you get into the forums.

Thanks....we will get on it.

Apparently, at least 80% of male computer users have....:D

Only 80??

You Pom's ARE a repressed lot aren't yas? Drop in to Oz sometime, it's more like 99.9% here :D

If there was no porn, and no file sharing, then we could all enjoy super fast internet with plenty of available bandwidth for live fullscreen video of the BM live show!!!

DBL:
Not a DNS issue, but well spotted, and certainly on the right track, have you attended one of my courses? :) .
Both versions of the URL, with and without the WWW alias resolve to the same IP address so DNS is fine. (I can't teach anyone anything about golf, but DNS, well, that's another matter :D )

Simplest fix for the user side problem is to change the bookmark/URL used to access the site as you suggested.

Fix for BM so users don't experiance the issue again depends on several factors, that's what you pay your IT guys for, right Brian?

Right it may not be DNS per se, but a site/forum setting (related to the www jazz), but that info gets them on their way. It can be fixed a couple of different ways.
