Across the line, yeah baby!

I absolutely love it! Was at the range yesterday and was struggling with a few shots still going out to the right. Fed up, I decided to make an attempt to get across the line (recommended by Jim K). Holy cow, did it work. Both irons and driver were much better. I had the very best driving round of my life. I had 3 longest drives ever (for those holes) in the same round. My contact is better and for some reason I seem to be able to swing much harder yet still retain good control.

The funny thing is that last year when I was playing with Soft Draw, I never tried this. Even though he says to in the video. Dummy me, dummy me.

Anyone else purposely getting across the line? Also, what problems can arise by overdoing it? I pulled a few so I'm wondering if that's why.

Thanks

You pulled a few because your path was too far left, or OTT, see wedge spin/angle of attack issue. Was it a long pull, or a skeezer? My guess is..you still need more tilt. Probably answer is in the transition. Just a guess after reading all of your posts. If I try to go across the line I duck hook it now, unless I hold on more. This is because I get enough tilt, but too early for my pattern. I like to rip it. Hope this helps.

I think I just figured out why I'm hitting it farther after I watched Brian's "flying elbow" video. Looks like it allows me to pull a lot more from the top. All i know is that I love it.

Across the line really isn't that bad of a flaw and sure beats being laid off, IMO. I would think the main issue with across the line is that you're likely to get under plane on the downswing.

I guess I was thinking the opposite. I figured laid off could get you underplane, therefore getting across the line would help. I thought it was my anti-underplane move. No? Am I totally wrong?

I think.....from "flying" at the top...

It's pretty common to go underplane in the transition when the right elbow gets pulled in (or drops) closer (or too close) to the body.

Not the expert around here but I do believe either (ATL or laid off) can get you underplane. (depending on your tendencies?)

It's working. Sounds like you're on track so far Curt. Adjust later if it evolvvvvvves.

when you say 'across the line', are you saying you are purposely going over the top? if that is the case, how would you go underplane?

Across the line helps curtis for 1 main reason: He has issues controlling left arm rotation in the backswing due to an old laid off swing. As he learns to control that more and more you will end up more and more "across the line" at some point.

HOWEVER

be careful because you can still swing too far to the right because essentially the clubface is a lot more closed than where it was and if you swing too left it's gonna be FORE left. So swing right the right amount and you'll be good just don't "over do it."

Awh come on. Everybody knows path is resposible for 85% of the balls starting direction. You guys are gonna kill me for being such an ass lately. Not having the NFL to watch for a few months is starting to wear on me.

NO CRAP! I hit some bad I'd call "smothered hooks" yesterday. Low and left right from the start. Just need to go to the range and keep banging.
