Aesthetics....

A lot of time is spent on TGM forums talking about proper alignments, geometry, etc. And rightly so; we're all trying to get better. But what are some of you favorite swing characteristics?

-I love John Daly's position at the top of the swing http://asafgolf.free.fr/images/golf/swings/daly_96_face.jpg. I've always loved super-long swings. Don't know why.

-I like the look of speed in Tiger's swing.

-I like the look of Ernie and Freddie's motions, because they're so smooth. I also like the way they maintain their spine angles after impact, as opposed to standing straight up.

-I like the shaft positions of Hogan and Sergio (before the swing change) halfway into the downswing, from face on.

These are a few of mine. As much as we talk about the science of the swing, I just wanted to get a take on some of the things that are pleasing to the eyes of the members here.

Cool topic...

I like when JD hits a wedge with a full length, reduced speed swing.....with apprev. finish....so cool....

Sergio looks deadly in the start down....

I like the "look of" flattish swings in general....(and flat left wrists)....although Freddie's swing is right cool looking....

Ernie's swing is beautiful tempo wise.....that start down keeps looking worse and worse to me tho....(looks like he casts it but then he has a snap release....weird).....and his takeaway bugs me too.....looks mechanical....

I like Duval's pivot...(in his heyday)...the look up move and all....the tempo....etc..

From a pure aesthetics point of view... (not necessarily good mechanics)

I like MDF's tempo.

I like a non-flying elbow at the top.

I like a the left arm to be no further than 50 degrees to the ground at the top.

I like a flat left wrist deep into the follow through.

I like the right elbow looking at your belly button at release. This requires a max trigger delay pitch elbow AND a sustained Snead style squat through impact. Very few people have this.

I like the boundary between the top of the backswing and start down to be very blurred.

I like the outside of the right foot to be off the ground at impact, while the right heel is still touching the ground.

I like to see someone who's really relaxed at the top -- the antithesis of X-factor.

I like a narrow downswing.

I don't like a swing that looks forced. For example, the old sergio has lots of wrist cock and "lag", but it looks strained.

I like your post Tong:

Here is my preferences list:

I like Constantino Rocca's takeaway (kind of float load, but not exaggerated)

I like a backswing that doesn't appear to go way inside

I like an aggressive pivot where the hips fully turn and the arms kind of float to the top - controlled by the hands.

As mentioned before - I like the "shaft touching the shoulder transition" and the shaft totally stressed like Bobby Schaeffer

I like the squat look and the look of max trigger delay (Sam Snead & Nelson)

I like the impact and post impact look of Trevino

I like the follow through and finish swivel of MDF and McKinney

I like the tempo of Mckinney and Snead.

I like it, I like it....

I love DAVID TOMS' top of the backswing (when he is doing it right).

I love MICHAEL FINNEY's "slingshot-like" release and contact (after his peerless start-down).

I love TOM BARTLETT's "both arms straight" way past the ball ('cuz his left chest goes up & back).

I love CHRIS HAMBURGER's putting stroke (float loading has many uses).

I love NAKIA DAVIS' full-finish (where her shoulders out turn her hips a bunch).

I like the look of this move, but it is hard on the back from what I've read.

Brian,

How much credit do you take for Mike and Tom's moves?

How about this for an idea. Have Mike and Tom play an 18 hole match in a format similiar to Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, film it, and sell it to your forum members.
With your commentary....With Mike and Tom making comments on their intent during shots...Of course with the New Orleans music from the Flipper tape!

Whatyathink?

Shell's Wonderful World of Golf

Bartett vs. Finney

Cool.

Good idea....I'd buy it.....two of the greatest swings of all time....(prolly sounds like an overstatement but I know it isn't)...lots of ability no doubt.....but another thing is this was TAUGHT (right?) by someone who knows.........which makes it twice as cool....

...

Brian...

What is it about Mike's start down that makes it "peerless?"

My favorite swings:

Freddie-I think the term "languid" was derived from this motion

Snead

Jay Haas-just a cool looking swing

Elkington

Arnold Palmer and Jim Furyk. Ugly is beautiful. Don't you guys wonder the custom plane shift Furyk have enabled him to become the top 10 most accurate driver in PGA tour. That to me is beautiful.
