Aiming point ahead of ball?

if anything, i have a tendency not to hit the ball first, and then make the divot. sometimes i'll contact the ground just a fraction before the ball, others perhaps catching it a bit on the upswing. i've found that if i focus and tell myself to swing to a spot just in front of the ball my contact is much better and i go through the ball better. perhaps this isn't the correct thought here, but it seems to work better for me telling myself to get to the low point after the ball than the image of hitting the ball first and then the ground. should i continue this, or would i be better off doing something more traditionally favored here(whatever that is)?

What you describe is actually what i prefer. If you tell a student to direct their lag at the ball they will flip 90% of the time.

Remember, as Brian says in Flipper, your hands have to be FROM YOUR VIEW outside your left foot at impact.
