Aiming Right

I have noticed that a lot of people aim way right of the target (including myself) and I was wondering why and how to stop? Thanks.

Hope Mr. Manzella won't mind if I try to help. I by no means am a teaching pro, so take what I have to say in that light.

When setting the feet at address many people look at the target and the feet get set to the target which is actually right of the on target swing plane. The analogy used for the correct alignment is the "train tracks" analogy--where the outside track is the ball-to-target line and the inside track is where your feet are aligned, which is parallel to but left of the outside track.

Another thing is what part of the ball are you trying to hit-- the back or the inside back of the ball. You actually want to hit the inside back part of the ball.

When you go to the range set two clubs down on the ground--one behind the ball pointing to the target. The other club next to your feet parallel to the club behind the ball. You will see that you need to align your feet a little left of the target.

Brian, weren't you going to post a video on this?

Kermit, there is some kind of an optical illusion going on with this steming from the nature of hte address position being inside the target line and with the eyes perpendicular to the target line. All I can tell you is to check it by laying down a club on your target line that you lined up by standing behind it. Then lay down another club along where your feet would be that is parallel with the target line club, use something (like another club) to measure each end to be sure it's really parallel. Then hit some balls with that foot line club to get used to what that feels like and try to remember how it feels when you are on the course.
