In March, Spain's Alvaro Quiros stopped everyone in their tracks on the driving range at Doral during the WGC-CA Championship when he was hitting drives over a lake more than 325 yards away. This week he stunned onlookers again on the Firestone driving range. Quiros, who averages 315.6 yards with his driver to lead the European Tour, was hitting 280-yard rockets into a net at the end of the range on Monday -- with a 1954 MacGregor Tourney M85 persimmon driver. Contact sounded like a baseball bat hitting a golf ball. The size of the wood driver head was smaller than his metal 3-wood. Quiros said he was hitting the ball as far as he hits his metal 5-wood.

I think his clubhead speed is around 124mph.

The best driver of all time I reckon is Greg Norman. His clubhead speed in his prime was 132mph with steel shafted persimmons. He was straight as well.In an interview,he believed he would be the longest on the current tour if he were playing in his mid 20's.

Yes I meant SD. No way he goes up the wall on the backswing like NHA and definitely not to the "extreme". Check some video no popout at all in that backswing

This is what the man said himself in a magazine interview.Either he's lying or it was a misprint.

I think 132 is probably his absolute max and not his average.

I certainly believe it. Greg was/is a beast. Crazy good dynamics to his swing.

I wouldn't put it past him. Don't have the stats but I have to think he could have busted 120 mph easy enough anyway.

The best driver of all time was Mike Austin.......clubhead speed measured at 155 mph..
He was hitting wooden drivers over 300 yards in the 1920's and 30's...and he hit the ball with a FADE......and was quizzed by Bobby Jones about it at Eastlake.....

And his 515 yard drive (in competition, Seniors Open)) at age 64 went right through the green (how accurate is that at 450 yards?....).....and that was with a persimmon driver....

I mean, how can you stand on the tee at a 450-odd yard hole and say, "Warn the guys on the green I'm going for it"....

I played with a Euro-Tour player about three weeks ago. His name is Will Besseling. He absolutely bombed it. He hit if 50 by me and hit is straight. He was flying it 300+. He hit it in the greenside bunker on the first hole of my course and it's 408. He was trying too. Sick!

I asked him if anyone hit it longer than he, and he sait Quiros was at least 20 yards longer. Yikes. He did say Daley could still move it out there too.

Tall and athletic, not a bad combo. Then you have Cannonica, who is 5' nothing about hits it 9-miles too.
