Angle of Attack - Best Ways to Shallow?

What would be the best way to help somebody increase their angle of attack (as measured by Trackman) assuming they have not had success with...

- More spine tilt to the right at address
- Moving the ball forward

Any suggestions?

For this player (driver swing), Trackman numbers for face and path are somewhat consistent around 0. Obviously on those swings, the swing direction is a little left to compensate for the negative angle of attack.

Swing plane around 50 degrees with driver. Golfer is 6'4"

Currently, to get swing direction around zero (with the current negative AoA), this player needs to hit a push draw and move the path out to the right, but trying to move swing direction to zero or even out to the right has not had the effect of running the AoA numbers into positive territory.

Hands are a bit too low at address and golfer a bit bent over, quite a bit of knee flex going on in the swing - not sure if this relates in any way but including it.

Just a few suggestions to try:

-more pull along the shaft (toward the center of the body) through impact
-more "release" (negative alpha) through impact
-eliminate excessive target-ward sliding in the downswing with Michael Jacobs' ground reaction forces foot action.

If he's too bound up with too much bend (knees, pelvis, torso) before he gets going it can make his job a lot tougher. It can also inhibit his turn through and promote some slide. Just a guess based off what you've described, but I have seen that before in a tall golfer (cough, cough). :)

I'm about to ask a real stupid question. What does knee flex do to influence angle of attack? I can definitely see how lateral movement would create a swing that will bottom out more in front of the ball and thus make it hard to move AoA into positive territory. But knee flex? Perhaps it's just that it encourages a lateral move?

Getting AoA to -5 with driver is a piece of cake, but a feel to produce +5 hasn't come yet.

I read this and was confused by the language "increase Angle of Attack". Don't you mean decrease? For example, if you say you want to go from -3 to 0 on the driver, that is generally referred to as shallowing, or decreasing the the angle of attack, not increasing it.

The excessive knee flex combined with too much bend in the other segments could be making it more difficult for him to get the proper amount of extension/rotation he needs to hip up like he wants. If he has the body angles to comfortably produce -5, it could be a tall task to produce a 10 degree change from those same angles in just the 1/4 of second he has during the downswing.

Easiest way to down down less with irons or up more with the driver——

Point your chest further to the right at impact and let your arms swing by.

Sorry... Correct... I am talking about shallowing

Some success with a feel of...

- Focusing on getting the swing direction much more to the right
- Really feeling like the swing is cornering much earlier than before.

(Pretty much what Brian just said)

Driver numbers shallowed to about -1 and 6 iron to around -4... Still some work to do...

Nope... Irons are over length to accommodate though driver length is standard.

Why?

Just curious...

I'm the same height (6'4")... I'm also in process of trying to shallow out my downswing and hit up more with the driver.

With my driver, I've gone from -2.0 to 3.1 and have increased carry by 25 yards. My clubhead speed is 92/94 mph. To achieve these numbers, I played the ball off my big toe and increased tilt a bunch at address. I also felt like I was aligned and swinging 15° to the right of the target. The numbers were SWING DIR. 4.6° with a FACE ANG. 2.1°.
