Our course has sheep grazing on it. We have to play the ball as it lies. We don't get a free drop if our ball becomes embedded in muck.
Of late the situation has become pretty intolerable (perhaps more sheep, a larger breed, a wet summer, whatever) with what used to be muck ressembling large rabbit droppings being replaced with dollops that could pass for large cowpats.
Players are getting covered in the stuff and many of us would like to see a local rule brought in to solve this problem as it does not appear to be satisfactorily covered by any golf rule.
Comments and suggestions please on the following tentative suggestion:
Local Rule. Animal Droppings: If a player’s ball has faeces adhering to it, the player may mark, lift, clean the ball and place it within 6 inches of the original spot, no closer to the hole.
