Sorry to hear that Curtis. I am glad to hear that your family is well though. Good luck, and you'll be in our prayers. :)

Here in Columbus, Indiana it turned our town into 3 islands. Luckily my home was safe but for others it was a total loss and nobody had flood insurance. Being a plumber I've been pretty busy pumping out basements. I can't imagine what Brian has went through.

Thanks Brian. It's amazing the amount of water that's flowing through this part of the state. Almost every town in the area is flooded with record levels. Vinton is around 5 feet over the record from 93. I honestly have NO idea about my house. It shouldn't be a complete waste but I'm sure there's 3 foot of water or so in it. There hasn't been any tv coverage today because there's basically no way of getting in or out. EVERYTHING is shut down.

Sorry for the "sob story", it's just something that words cannot describe (as you know first hand Brian). Luckily my family is safe (oh, and soft draw is coming out soon:)) See you on the course, if it ever dries out...

I feel for you guys, being in Florida also, and having to deal with hurricanes... we had some pretty serious flooding about 2 years ago. Hang in there guys... everything will dry up eventually..

Hey Curtis, the good thing is you're safe and out of it. I got a little story for you. Here in Houston a couple of years ago it flooded. We got 30" of rain in a couple of days - Tropical Storm Allison. On the final day the water came into my house. There wasn't anything I could do but watch it rise. It's a helpless feeling. We got about 6" in the house.

We had just moved in to our house about 20 days before and our flood insurance wasn't yet activated. It was a dismal feeling knowing we had to replace sheetrock, furniture, a couple of appliances, and all the carpet. Six months later we were back to normal. A year after we were a little shy of heavy rain but we were totally recovered. 6 years later and the incident is all but forgotten.

My point is, your mind is probably racing and you and your family have a lot of uncertainty. It sucks now but in due time your life and your home will return to what was once normal. It may not be next week but it will return. Best wishes to you, your family, and your community!

Well, I'm back home. The town brought in like 3 huge generators from MN and our power is slowly coming back on around town. Luckily our water plant is fairly protected and water is not an issue. I think Cedar Rapids (about 30 minutes south) has only 1 out of 50 water wells working. It's absolutely unbelievable. My house is going to be ok. Just need to get some water out and replace 2 freezers and a refrigerators worth of food.

PS Thanks for all the kind words!

Just curious, if your area is flooded, where and how are you getting internet access from? Local library? Wifi at a cafe?

Not sure how the internet works but I have DSL. All I know is when the power came back the internet worked. The previous posts I made were at my moms in another town. Water has been dropping pretty rapidly now, over 5 feet in the past day. Towns south of me like Iowa City are just getting it. Water is still critical in Cedar Rapids.

Someone else her from Columbus, In; wow. Where do you play mostly shortgamer?

Our basement got flooded from sewer backup after all of the rain, and that was the Wednesday before the flood hit Columbus. We were staying at the Holiday Inn but had to evacuate there on Sunday morning because of the flood.

Thoughts and prayer for all affected.
