What are your thoughts on apex putting

Dave Pelz breaks a putting myth - Instruction - Golf.com

Personally I like apex putting and believe that is the best way to avoid steering your stroke. If you apex putt, then you are always trying to trace a straight line with the shaft of the putter and therefore every putt is straight.

What Pelz is missing with this gravity strarts immediately argument, is that, doesn't everyone factor in this early breaking of the put when they are choosing the apex of their line.

Funny how Phil used to miss the majority of his putts on the high side when working with Pelz, I could throw up shot link but he's not worth the time and effort.

Another great Pelz find - along with the old square to square stroke.

If you aim at the balls apex, and send the ball on that line, you will miss low. This isn't just a Pelz idea - see Mangum, Orr, and Sweeney (Aimpoint Technologies).

Starting line.

must propel ball on starting line. dont aim anywhere else.
If you aim at the apex, you must compensate. hi speed film shows it up, its fun to watch, people are really good at it, but less compensation is better.

It is strange but I would have had to call myself an apex putter up until late last year. If you think about it if you go off a straight line to the hole then a putt will make a curved line that looks like the apex is somewhere between you and the hole. However if you think about aiming a certain amount above the hole then the putt will always appear to be curving off the line towards the hole.

Really I see it as two different ways to look at the same thing.

What I have found for myself is I am a much better putter when I think of a line above the hole and the ball breaking off that line. Up until late last year I thought the opposite. I started working with the Pelz putting tutor simply to teach myself how to aim. People always told me I was not aimed where I thought I was so I decided to do something about it. I have to admit that short putts are much easier when you have a clue how to aim.(embarrassing)
