Arched Left Wrist at the Top ala Trevino

How many golfers do you find need to control the clubface this way?

Arched at the top is almost always ignored by almost everyone as a way to play good golf.............

(not like that in itself is gonna stop me but I find it an interesting observation anyway).........

I can't seem to play any other way.

Paul (Birdie),

The reason is because they think the position is CLOSED.

You know better....it is just less OPEN!!!

Homer Kelley referred to arching the left wrist as insurance against bending the left wrist at impact (4-A-3). Sounds like a good thing to me.

Hehe yesyesyes I do know better............(thankfully)...............

All I know is that I can't seem to close the clubface well enough if I am anywhere near Flat at the top (never mind bent) unless I do a full roll (and that is still with it arched at the top).............but I never have hit it as good that way.

So in your teaching.......how many people- as THEIR pattern (aside from blowing up stuff)- end up with it arched at the top?

The longer a golfer works with me, the less chance they need an arched wrist...but....I'd say if you want to included slightly arched, I'd guess about 15%.

Hey BirdMan

Did you ever Try Twistaway? Doesn't It Also Close the ClubFace on the BackSwing... Excuse Let Me Rephrase that - Makes the ClubFace Less Open on the BackSwing.... Or am I Trying to Kill Two Birds with One Stone Here:confused:

Cheers

Ps. "Makes the ClubFace Less Open" I Like That!! It Has Such Implications...

Ya I find I have to work at it too much to not hook it with longer clubs though.

When I try to swivel it open I still end up with an arched left wrist at the top......unless I make an extra effort to keep my right elbow pointing to the ground. (but then I find it too open)

It Appears You have an Unsolvable Swing Problem......

Neverrrrrrrrr!!! ;)

BTW I actually did end up trying a pattern with more twistaway and hit it real good tonight.........hopefully it'll last a day.........no toe shanks. (fingers crossed!)

Now if Twistaway and an Arched left wrist accomplished on the BackSwing makes the ClubFace Less Open Does this not Imply that every one has a More Open ClubFace without arching the Left Wrist and using Twistaway on the BackSwing..... Everyone has to square the ClubFace on the Downswing.... Assuming it is Easier to Square a Less open Clubface than a more open ClubFace Then Why doesn't everyone Arch their Left Wrist and Twistaway on the BackSwing?????

Because some people's swings would hook the ball off of the course if they did that; everybody dosen't need to twistaway, or arch their wrists.

Sorry if question stupid, but wouldn't they hook the ball off the course as they are used to trying to square their open clubface and contiue to do so with it "more square"

(That sounds crap but I know what I mean  )

Hi There

If one agrees with the Premise that the less one has to Square the ClubFace on the DownSwing the Better.... Your Response is Sterling.... It Seems to me the less I Have to Do on the DownSwing the Better..... The Virtue Around Here around Here seems to be the more one has to Square the Clubface on the DownSwing the Better the Golf Swing(That is the Center of the Matrix)...

I'm Bettin the Main Reason Your Wife Beats Your Ass is that Her ClubFace is Much more Less Open at the Top like Most Touring Pros.....

Cheers

Yup.

Because NOTHING is for EVERYONE.

Because there is some advantage to letting it open and close more.

Because not everyone is hitting the same shape shot.

Because folks have different pivots amd different grips.

Etc. ;)

brian,
i tend to play best with an arched wrist at the top. however, i do get some pulls and pull hooks during the round. what should i do to avoid these errant shots? i still would like to keep my arched wrist position at the top.
thanks,
jimmy

Not since my trip to Baton Rouge

I have played almost a year with an arched wrist because that is all I thought I could play with. Brian changed that last weekend (I am now pretty darn close to flat) and judging from the 3 buckets I have hit since, it was a good change. I thought I needed it, he showed me, uh, not so much.

Damn right, she know nothing about the golf swing and has a VERY neutral grip, swing, pivot, plane, ball flight etc etc etc etc.

Oh, a cute 5yrd draw when at ther best too.

Now it's cold she won't bother playing much till March.
