I got the opportunity to spend this morning with Brian in the ATL working on my golf swing. Let me start off by saying that Brian has excellent communication skills and the ability to immediately put the student at ease with his likable manner and conversation.

Brian had me start out getting loose with some 7 irons, he then took some video of my swings and asked me where my game was at..... I am currently a 7 handicap and hit a lot of big blocks or quick hooks with the preferred shot being a little draw.

Then it was on, the next two hours went by like a whirlwind with Brian totally rebuilding my backswing so that it would more match what I was trying to do on my downswing. This was done using a lot of perfect pivot work and adding more axis tilt. We worked really hard on this and Brian did a great job of being patient and letting me "get it" and I really think I started getting it especially toward the end. We also worked a lot on following the yellow brick road and not letting my upper and lower body get out of sync.

Brian then showed me some pitches and chips that really opened my eyes with different shots to play around the green. Previously I had simply used the basic chipping motion taught in the Building Blocks dvd for every shot around the green. Brian explained the shots using the leading edge, middle bounce and trailing edge and different options for each. I feel these types of shots will help me tremendously.

After that it was a few more full swings with different clubs to see if I "got it" in which I finally got an "A" from Brian and it was on to the putting green.

Brian immediatly noticed what I was doing wrong with the putter. I was "running away from the plane". Brian had a very simple drill to correct this and my putting stroke was immediatly improved.

In my opinion this was money very well spent. I cannot say enough how much Brian helped me through the bag. I am truly impressed and cannot wait to fully implement what was taught to me today. I really feel I am on the path to marked improvement.

Thanks Brian

Brian was saying that most putter backswings are fine, however on the forward swing, the putter shaft tends to go really right.

Brian proved this by putting a shaft on the outside of my putter horizontal to the ground the goal was to not hit the shaft on the forward swing.

When my stroke did not hit the shaft, my contact and line were both better as opposed to hit a lot of poor contact push putts.

Hope that helps.

A great player in the making...

Our friend GLCoach (Jared), is a great guy, a super lesson taker, and a CURRENT 6 handicap.

Folks, that is coming down.....WAY DOWN.

And, as far as the putting....90% of all golfers have this FLAW.

What about the other 10 percent? I find that are drifting away on the backswing. What would you prescribe for them?

What do you feel is the major contributing cause of this flaw? Must be a very common idea or swing thing that we've got in our heads

I'll second all of this. My lesson with Brian was structured similarly, but obviously the things that we actually worked on were a bit different. And, as Brian said, "it's a good thing we have 3 hours." :) Brian immediately picked up on a flaw with my grip - I was subconciously regripping at somepoint in the first few feet of my takeaway. We had to actually get the camera out to see what was happening.

Needless to say, once Brian had me keeping my grip where it was supposed to be, it had some far reaching implications for the rest of my swing. He was probably wondering how a 6 handicap could hit the ball that poorly :) I've got to really focus now on swinging left and getting my weight through to my left side.

I will say that lately, I've been terribly inconsistent with my driver. By the time we had worked our way up to the driver, Brian had me just absolutely pounding the ball down the range. We almost didn't have enough room to avoid hitting people at the other end (we were into the wind as well).

All in all, it was a very good lesson. I haven't exactly had a bunch to compare it to, but Brian did a good job picking up on what I needed to work on. I'll definitely be going back to see Brian periodically in the future.

Brian: As an aside, once I got home and was able to get in front of a mirror, I could see what was "correct" and was able to really "feel" what I should be doing. I could actually show you now what was happening in my grip that was causing it to get so strong mid-way back.

it would be very difficult to afford a three hour session. being a pretty solid ballstriker, can enough be accomplished in an hour to find, analyze, and help correct any flaws brian would see? if not one hour, how about two max?
i live in st. louis and no tgm instructors, so a five hour drive may be possible(if gas were cheaper. he he)
thanks

Brian gets to the heart of it quickly, he could definately identify the areas you need to work on in an hour.

When he says he can fix anyone, if they do a good job learning, I believe he is right.
