Axis Tilt Question

For the most part I have hit the ball well this year, at the same time its my least amount of rounds and practice in 10 years (becauses of putting highest scores in 10 years). This weekend I was able to get range time and playing time I proceeded to just hit it very heavy (deep divots after the ball) and my misses were fat (divots behind the ball).

Since the spring I have focused on a hard pivot back with my core resulting LCT and the lifting of my left heel, my downswing was plant the left heel and turn hard back to the left, simple thoughts that increased distance and control.

In searching the site last night, it would seem that axis tilt is the best way to shallow out the swing. I was wondering if you can set up with axis tilt or should it be applied in the down swing. Also can a steep downsing result from not having the hands as deep as possible on the backswing.

You can set up with axis tilt or add it early or late in the downswing depending on what you're trying to do and what swing issues you have. Standard IMO is set up with a bit of axis tilt, maintain that to the top and progressively increase it till impact while unwinding.
