You have many choices in the matter, and The Golfing Machine allows all of them.

There are advantages to both, but, put it this way...

It is EASIER to have multiple ball positions.
 
You can keep the same aiming point with multiple ball positions. With a single ball position, you have to change your aiming point.

Denny - I would consider it where you are trying to get your hands 'through' at impact. The thrust continues to the aiming point past the impact hand location. Think of it more as where you are trying to get to both arms straight, as referenced on the ground, a few feet ahead of the ball.
