Ben Hogan and his left wrist

K....

I read stuff about Hogan's grip and left wrist all the time.....and I need a good answer from the people who have studied the most pictures, video, etc.

Brian and David Alford are the 2 that come directly to mind but surely there must be tons of ppl in here who could comment on this....

...

For now I will ask Brian but anyone who knows is very free to chime in...(and it would be very appreciated)...

So yes....

Brian...

Could I have an "Official Manzella Statement" on what you think of the evolution of Hogan's grip and his left wrist at the top?

BTW the common thinking on Hogan seems to be weak grip/bent left wrist at the top.

...

I have seen a fair amount of images and I see:

-grips that seem to range from "matching the clubface" to slightly stronger than that

-a lot of very close to flat left wrists at the top

-some definitively bent left wrists at the top (before the accident i.e. Power Golf...and also seemingly much later in his career)

I've seen a lot of conflicting images as well, the important thing is that he flattens it on the way down. What I don't see in Hogan is the "swingers flail". Why not?

Because he is not a pure swinger...he's a four-barrel swinger, and the extra right arm thrust near impact overpowers the centrifugal force, allowing him to have the hands up the left arm well past impact. As Brian says, not necessarily better or worse than the "pure swing", just different.

Ok, I see it now, Hogan really does max it out.

Looking through his 5 lessons book, when Hogan talks of pronation and supination, to fully understand what he is teaching, an understanding of right arm participation would be helpful, I think anyway.....

Thanks huestic
