Best golf training book?

"Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe--Not at all a golf book, but overall strength using powerlifting moves for a general fitness program. I'm an Army Ranger and this is what all my soldiers and I use. I've gained over 20lbs of muscle in the last year and at least a clubs length in distance.

I'm sure golf distance and speed is much more related to form, but raw strength certainly doesn't hurt.

How about the quote on the first page of his site??? Are you kidding me? I had better not piss this fellow off.

"Strong people are harder to kill than weak people and more useful in general." - Mark Rippetoe

Wow - this guy is serious.......

Yes, very serious Martin. Here's a little tip for anyone that goes over to his site. DON'T ask any STUPID questions. You can pack on a lot of pounds with SS but I wouldn't recommend it for golfers, more like FB players.

Another website you might want to check out is Rosstraining.com. He is a boxing and MMA trainer but he sells a variety of books on training with and without equipment. He has some excellent video on his workouts and the guy is in phenomenal shape.

Save your money

Best book to establish a weight training and stretching routine for over the winter.
Have a look at the Titleist Performance Institute website, it's free and it's the same guys you used to see on the Golf Channel.

I have Core Performance. Great book. TPI has lots of good stuff also. But I think the best tool for all around strength, core, mobility, stability, and balance is the TRX suspension training system. I have been doing it for about 2 months with good results. Check it out on fitness anywhere.com. TPI also made a dvd to go along with it. Good stuff!
