best lasers

Shooting,

I recently looked at lasers and decided to try making a flashlight version to see if it would work. Went to Home Depot and purchased 2 Mini-Maglite flashlights (batteries included, $10 each). These have the "Super Bright Krypton Lamp" and an adujustable beam that narrows to a decent spot. I took a new golf grip and cut both ends off leaving 6 to 8 inches of grip. I then cut the grip lengthwise, put both flashlights in it (end-to-end), rolled electrical tape snugly around the length of the grip, and - VOILA - a "golf club" with a beam coming out of each end. I actually like it better than some lasers I've tried - the beam is easier to see.

Is there such thing as a 'double clamp'? The Butch Harmon laser is clamped onto the golf shaft, one inch or so away from the shaft so one could hit full shots. I don't know if they sell something in a hardware store, a double clamp, where one end would clamp onto the shaft and the other end clamps onto a pen flashlight. Sure would be a lot cheaper than 70 bucks.

Only problem is when you are swinging the club you are concerned with the sweet spot plane. No one has come up with lasers or lights for that one yet.

I copied the material below from this website http://www.practicerange.com/detail.aspx?ID=649
It describes the Harmon laser trainer and it mentions sweet spot.
I bid on one on ebay and won. It should be here by Monday.

About the Path Laser...

The Path Laser attaches to any club shaft, with the laser beam pointing to the ground in front of the club face sweet spot. You will adjust the "red dot" of laser light to point to where the ball should be at address. The path Laser (tracking across the Graphical Mat) will show you where the club head is traveling to and from the ball during the bottom portion of your swing. Attaching the Path Laser is simple and is described in the full version of the online instructional booklet.

About the Plane Laser...

The Plane Laser attaches to the butt end of any standard shaft grip. As the laser beam tracks across the Graphical Mat, the Plane Laser will show you the perfect golf swing plane (angle of the swing) during the top part of the swing for each club. Obviously, the Plane Laser points toward the ground during the top portion of your golf swing (beyond approximately 90* from the vertical on the top portion as you prepare for the down swing

Tom, I agree. However "shaft plane" is still very important.

IMO www.lasertrainer.com is the best, not because it's endorsed by butch or the crappy videot that comes with it but because of all the features it has over the others.

Eventually i'm going to create my own amd market it. :)

Putting laser will be first.

It's O.K. but, it still doesn't show the sweet spot plane. It would have to go on an angle from the #3 pressure point through the sweet spot.

Tell me if I am thinking wrong.
1) I can only see the point of light tracing the target line on the mat. It's not like a light saber that I can see the shaft of light.
2) The point of light is aimed in front of the sweet spot. I am guiding the point of light with my hands and pivot.
??? Would I not be tracing the sweet spot plane?

I have yet to see the laser guide in operation so I am making assumptions and am seeking answers and perhaps insight as to how to best use the device.

Steve
PS: I'm still working on the short chip I was having so much trouble with. I'll tell you off line what I'm doing now that seems to work.

Yes Steve, you will only see the point of light. Yes you will be more or less seeing the sweet spot line. Just not perfectly on it but, close enough that it shouldn't matter.

Evershed has a lazer club trainer that I like. It has laser on each end (shaft) and it a real club. I have used a training grip with a laser at each end but don't get the same feel as a real club.

I would highly recommend going to Evershed's site and giving his laser club a look. Of course, not sweet spot plane but close. Pricy but it will do the job. I have used mine to actually hit an impact bag with lines on the ground as guides with no ill effects on lasers. Don't swing too hard.

just buy two lasers and mount one with two pipe-clamps
below the grip, pointing to the sweetspot (more hosel).
Cut a cross into the but of the club and stick the second one in.
For switching on/off just slide the penholder over the button.
Hope you like it and save some money.

>> Where did you get the lasers? I have not found any with a diameter that small.
.. bought it at a big elctronic market called SATURN. (Don´t know if this group also exists outside of Europe). It was sold with a key-chain, which easily can be detached. Can´t remember the product-name, but just type "laser pointer" into the search field of google or ebay, you´ll find a lot of small ones. lg Rico

You can also find them that small at Target. I bought two for 5 bucks apiece at Christmas time. Haven't mounted them yet but they were cheap. Came with extra batteries and tips too. You can try there (it is a Target brand item).
