I'm playing Bethpage Black on Friday. We're gluttons for punishment so we'll probably play the tips. Anyone here play it and can give me some good tips. I'm wondering if on some of the long par fours you're almost better off playing for bogey and just making sure your'e in the fairway... thanks

I've played it a couple times since the Open and it's fun. With the temps here in NY in the high 50s it'll play tough. The greens are probably the easiest part of this course.
The pro tee boxes are probably closed so it'll play in the upper 6,000s. The key with Bethpage is really to keep it in the fairway or you'll be playing for bogey.
BEST ADVISE - Check in 1 hour before you tee off, or you run the risk of them releasing your time.
Depending on how long you hit the ball will dictate whether you should hit driver or three wood off certain tees. On some holes if you're long enough to cut the dog legs, you'll have 3 clubs shorter to the green.
1 - if you're long enough to take it down the right side you'll have a short iron in
2 - don't get greedy with the left side. Play it down the right.
3 - unless the pro tee boxes are open it's not that bad.
4 - unless you can carry the bunker on the left don't flirt with it. 2nd shot make sure you get over the 2nd set of traps
5 - play down the right side of the fairway. Even if you hit the fairway on the left you won't have a clean shot to the green
6 - play to the top of the hill, towards the right side
7 - smart play is the not hit driver and hit over the center/left of the trap. Aggressive play is to carry the right side of the trap + rough. That'll give you about 220 in to the green
8 - don't hit the tree on the right hand side
9 - If you're long and accurate enough play down the left side. The right side slopes back down
10 - long and straight hole. be carefull off the right hand side fairway bunker
11 - similar to 10
12 - If you're long and accurate play over the traps on the left.
13 - Drive it in the fairway and you'll be fine.
14 - easy par 3
15 - Bit** of a hole. You must put it in the fairway. Long uphill dog leg left, with a two teer green. Make sure you're approach shot is on the right teer.
16 - Again, as long as you're in the fairway you'll be fine. More room to right than the left
17 - tough par 3, tee box and pin position can make it a really tough par three
18 - If the tees are up you can bomb it over all the traps. If not better put it in the fairway or you'll be taking you medicine.

golfwolf, thanks for the feedback,I'll probably print this off and take it with me. I'm moderate in length, drive the ball 260-280, I'm worried, I'll be much shorter at Bethpage this week though. It will be a high of 59 and the course will be wet, so it will probably be all carry and no roll.

Hey TBALL, I live 8 minutes from the course. Played it many times through the years. The wet rough will be a killer. Give me a shout if you need a 4th.............LOL
