Forum member, military man, and Manzella student, Stephan, Wgolf131, shot 68 today in his military Men's league tournament.

So what?

So this: Stephan came to me two years and a couple of months ago for the first time as a 12 handicapper.

One full day at English Turn and a couple of hours at two Tour Stops later, he is trending below a 3, and fired that personal best today.

I couldn't be happier for a great guy.

Dude! Nice going!! I love that story. Definitely something to brag about. Proud of you man.

Love to hear about the round someday.

Was playing with poor form for more than a few rounds and I knew I had to see Brian and he was just what the doctor ordered, We worked on my full game tee to green, putting, short game and most of all my bunker play ( lol). Brian and Steve G know why I chuckle.......
I couldnt get out of them!
So with some teaching from B manz and a strong word to change the wedge I was using (Which I did). I didnt fear the sand. Also helped with a new putting stroke and understanding of what im supposed to be trying to do. The putting woes are getting better! He made another club suggestion in regards to my hybrid which I changed so I didnt fear the long iron shot into the green.
He worked long and hard on getting me to do the proper things with my body to make the proper things happen with the club.
Bmanz is truly the answer man he has answered all of my question when asked the why, the who, the for whats, the when's and why this shot or that shot. If you ever get the chance to see Brian and his little orange friend do so! He has given me confidence that I can compete in the first flight.

Ideas on how to you correct an iron push shot. Dead right of the target! NO movement cut or draw just dead straight? Pin High perfect number distance wise but right and then you cant get you 3 wood off the ground and dead soomthered hook drives ( I was thinking not enough leftward swing) ?

Yes, sure sounds like your swinging to the right toooo much. Sounds like a little "carry" might go a long way.

Agreed with the above in general. And for me I was amazed at how far inside out and down I was initially. A visit to Trackman is in order. Guessing is just guessing. I could hit a big hook with my 3 wood off the ground but not much else at all.

Thanks ,
It was just one round but it caused a bunch of trouble; I finally figured it out with 5 holes left and just started aiming the entire shooting match left of the target and boom; but it was way to late I was already 10 over and struggling on the greens.

When I thought I was aiming the face at the target and shading a bit left with the body and HSP I was hitting the push with the irons and a hook with the driver; I knew but it was to dang stubborn to aim far left and just get around the course.

I wanted to do it the way I learned and stick with it no matter what but the no matter was a big number. lol.... Thats why we need more trackman access to the normal public. I will work it out I knew what flight to look for but could find it... Thats golf!!! The same thing that makes you happy makes you cry!!

I need some help making a decision, I know it’s early but this afternoon I going to go on the course and work on the format for the weekend. Monday is a great slow day over here....
It’s a funny fun format in the MGA this weekend #3 clubs and a Putter playing from 6000 yards.... what’s a good 3 set make up. I was thinking 3 wood and 6 iron and 52 degree wedge....

The two longest par 4’s from that distance is 400 and 398 and the 4 par 5's on the card is 500, 463 , 511, 507. The four par 3's are 156, 135, 189, 177 these distance are all to the center. The rest are pretty simple holes ranging from 298 to 351

The wind is always a factor to me it’s more about the short game these type formats. So I wanted to make sure I had my money wedge.

We have a 3 club challenge as well at my club and I prefer to take a 5 wood (IMHO a better compromise for tee shots and shots of the fairway or light rough), 7 iron (just a personal preference but remember you need to be able to do 'in between' shots with it) and then my SW as I use it for chipping and bunker.

Your short game will be important as you probably over or under-hit a few greens. So take the club you are best with around the greens.

Parhunter;
Thanks for the reply... This is my first 3 club challenge ever. I dont have a 5 wood, I play a 3 HY 19 degree so I will try both out this afternoon with two balls play 9 holes.

Yes I work with my mid irons hitting shorter shots and hitting it longer as well. The longer never works as I would like... LOL

Thanks again
