in his new book. Anyone else notice this? I haven't bought the book, but took a peek at Barnes and Gooble.

is that a bad thing?...won't the hammer like cocking motion of the left wrist cause a little cup like look at the top...the imperative is a flat left wrist at impact.

I see it...

It's a good book. It will clarify things for a lot of misguided strikers. Bobby has a pretty strong grip and like most of these fellas, cups his left wrist at the top. To me it's just one more timing issue I'd rather not have to deal with....

I see a bunch of cupped wristed high handicappers at my club. It's a tough thing to remedy after you've hacked at a golf ball for a long time....

It might surprise many people that I teach some golfers to bend their left wrists a bit.

Or have them at least try to.

The better the SWING, the more it MIGHT help.

The problem is, most GREAT PLAYERS don't do it, and almost all POOR PLAYERS don't need to.

Just one more thing in the MANZELLA MATRIX to sort out.

In general, the stronger the grip, the more you could bend it and still have it in the plane of the left wrist cock.

That seems to be the position Clampett takes in his book (according to my understanding of his book). One can have more wrist bend, and therefore more lag, WITHOUT affecting the plane of the wrist cock, and therefore WITHOUT interfering with one's ability to have a flat wrist at impact - and more lag translates to faster clubhead speed, according to Clampett.

What I said was...

Well, just re-read my post. It stands as written. ;)

But, you WILL NOT have a FLAT LEFT WRIST AT IMPACT, you will have an equivalent "flat left wrist."

Best question

What's the relationship?
Martee has asked a question in the thread ‘Fix the Clubface first’ that Brian has deemed ‘Best question in the history of the forum.’ and it is indeed a very good question however your question ‘What is the relationship?’ is, to my way of thinking, the acid test that should not only be applied to that question but to a multiplicity of issues arising in the study of the golf stroke. It is concise and incisive and calls for a conclusion.
The understanding of the golf stoke would be furthered immeasurably if that question was applied, addressed and answered in similar vein more often.

I played around with a cupped left wrist for a month, and increased my clubhead speed, but my clubface control slowly abandoned me.

I am all for it.

Just know this, every answer is NOT in the book.

Thanks for the stimulating question. The book considers a relationship between the left thumb and PP3. You might find help in 10-2-B, C, D.

Not what I was looking for.

I'm talking about relationship between left thumb and wrist cock.

Should be interesting...

Not what I was looking for.

I'm talking about relationship between left thumb and wrist cock.

"Longer" left thumb allows for more wrist cock, a "shorter" one limits it, but I assume you're wondering about lateral (left-right) position of the thumb on the grip...me too...

I've seen very good players with their thumbs on top of the shaft, and also to the right of it.

The left thumb-wrist cock relationship is covered in the references. But, as you say...

Anyway, your question was benefical because it stimulated me to review how PP3 is involved with the thumb-wristcock relationship. Thanks again for posting it.

It ain't in the book...

This video is about the relationship of the LEFT THUMB and the clubface, at the half-way back and halfway through positions.
