Breaking the Knees

Just curious, what's the opinion here on breaking the knees at the target in the downswing pivot (lee trevino, jack nicklaus, johnny miller, ben hogan type movement)? Doesn't seem like something that is really taught anymore. Who is it useful for? Any particular swing problems it can help correct?

I've been experimenting with trying to swing more like Trevino, and the knee shuttle really has given me some great strikes (though I'm still pushing the ball... grrrr). Just curious about it's affect on the overall pivot.

One of the things I've found useful is getting enough knee flex in the downswing. This allows me to use ground pressures better and to keep my *downswing* flatter and I'm not reaching for the ball at impact as much. I don't 'break the knees' like Trevino would say, but I think what it does is help with lowering your COG.
