Brian: Review why Stricker is so good with wedges

Can somebody with video "skills" take his setup and impact pics and set them side by side, I have no idea how to do it. Going back and forth on the video they look nearly identical, you don't see that very often.

Thanks Lia....What really strikes me is how square and unopen his hips are at impact, very little lower body movement, hmmmm.

There is less shaft-lean in the impact picture from behind - and also the left shoulder is higher than in the setup picture.

(Great pix btw)

What's incredible to me is how little his left side has moved at impact. It "seems" like there's nowhere for his right side to go. The inability of 2D film to properly express internal torques and motion in a swing, I suppose.
By the way, great pictures Lia. Thanks.

It doesn't always have to be about technique....he can just be good. That being said, it appears that he controls his angle into the ball, his lean of the shaft and face rotation. That, coupled with amazingly consistent pace makes controlling wedge shots a breeze.

Makes it look easy.

The interesting thing about this past weekend is his tempo did not change at all when hitting low shots or normal. Just the follow thru

Just as a point of interest, why did he go so bad a few years ago (technique-wise?)
It seems impossible to believe looking at these pictures and his recent record...

I really think he went bad because he focused on other things, didn't practice enough and got a little hitch in his swing. Couple that with some mid career burnout and you can go from world beater to just another good golfer really quick.

Was there anything in his technique that was egregiously bad?

I don't recall it being anything horrible, his instructor gets a lot of credit for basically cleaning up a few things and Stricker putting in the time.

Look at the cats stats! He's a FREAKIN' BIRDIE MACHINE!!!! Looks like to me this cat starts normal, stays normal and finishes normal...no acute angles...from this dude's stats if he has a chance to hit a scoring club he hits it to 15 feet and makes the most putts from 15 to 5 feet....combo for nasty-ness.
