I have been working with the soft draw pattern for two months now. The first week I hit it great, but I have lost my swing. (Not due to the pattern, probably weight shift and open clubface stuff that will require a "hands on lesson") Anyhow I looked at Bruce Leitzke's swing on youtube and it looked a lot like the soft draw pattern. Do the experts here agree? As I am so lost in my swing thoughts I dont want to watch videos that arent even close. I realize he faded the ball.

Funny enough, I have been taking an interest in Lietzke too - cos I have a big inside takeaway that I prefer to work with than work hard to eradicate.

On his takeaway the clubhead goes way inside and the hands stay low so the path there is very different.

But I think downswing concept/idea/intent of Soft Draw ('swinging') might be a bit similar to what Lietzke does.

Any Manzella coaches got a view?

My swing is Payne Stewart's but with a more see-saw pivot, and a bit of Austin influence. Lately I've been working off the same general pattern to hit a consistent frozen hands pivot power hold fade.

The pivot I like to use looks a little bit like Ochoa's <----------- See my avatar :)

Lietzke is a fader, takes the club way inside then comes over the top of his backswing plane.

Yes, and he lead the PGA Tour in total driving pretty much every year...but...but...here's a guy who drove it fairly long and in the fairway and stopped playing in the US Opens because the greens were faster than he liked. I would have thought he'd be a strong favorite to win at least one US Open, but you have to actually play in them to win one.

If I remember, he wouldn't play much in the summer. Something about spending time with the family.......whatever. He coached his kids little league, stuff like that instead of playing.

Read a story about how he wouldn't practice for weeks at a time. His caddy didn't believe that he didn't practice so he put bananas in his wood head covers. Eight weeks later on the practice tee.....

Absolutely true story...he likes hot rod cars also...great guy BTW...he just refuses to worry which makes me jealous.
One year at the Talahassee Open he and Bill Rogers both blew a chance to win on Sunday...I did also...of course I was pissed and kicking the locker...they were talking about going fishing the next week like nothing ever happened...They absolutely put the tournament behind them as soon as they finished their round. How they do that I'll never know as I tried but could never pull off that attitude. I mention that to Bill everytime I see him which must make him say...geeez, Oldpro gunna tell me that Talahassee story for the 10th time...the old fart!!! LOL
