Bunker Help

I shot a 46 yesterday for nine holes but it should of been a 41 or lower. My driver was great but my irons were leaking right and I ended up in 4 greenside bunkers. I hit one good, got lucky on one hitting the lip and popping out on the fringe, and flew 2 over the green.

I have never been a real strong bunker player but I can usually "get it out onto the green" 50% of the time.

I'm playing again this am and there is not a practice bunker at the course. Any quick tips?

Also is there a reason to not simply chip the ball out of the bunker if you have a low lip and some green to work with?

Thanks!

there's no rule that has you explode the ball out of the trap. make the ball get to the hole in the easiest and most efficient manner possible.

Long bunker shots with a low lip that are played with an 8 iron or so could not be easier. I saw Gary Player on TGC talking about how easy it was and basically begged people to just try it and see. Sure enough, the guy has learned a thing or two after all these years.

Seeing that bunker in the video Spmurph linked...we have no bunkers with as a low a lip as that. How nice for some people!

I KNOW!!! I play a lot at OSU where they are playing the Nationwide event and the bunkers are all MacKenzie/Nicklaus deep with high lips.

Over and Out is a great video. But if you have a decent lie and enough room, I don't see why you couldn't just pick it out like a normal pitch shot.
