Can I train to increase clubhead speed?

I've been reading lately about the speed chain. Not sure of the validity of the product but reading about it made me wonder if there was any golf specific training I could do that would actually increase my clubhead speed? I'm a fairly athletic and flexible 35 year old with a driver clubhead speed that hovers around 112mph. Is it unrealistic to try to achieve a comfortable 10mph increase?

10MPH is alot , I think you could get 5 but probobly not 10, just my opinion, would not hurt trying but 5 would be an excellant increase, TIM

Clubhead speed is like Chinese food Neil, you always want more to eat an hour later....:D
I know but 112mph is pretty good.If you can hit it out of the middle with that speed -we're talking Tour caliber.
The danger of trying to get more than you can physically handle is that you start to get throwaway-amongst other things.
But TRY! ...AND GOOD LUCK!

10mph increase using the Speed Chain? YES and many have gained much more.
More clubhead speed is good, then your reserve can be held
for when you need it most.
The speed chain is one of the best for training for speed and a
whole lot more. Get fit as a fiddle.
Just straight speed. check there site out. speedchain

I wouldn't call 112 tour caliber. My ideal goal would be a controlled (not all out) swing with driver clubhead speed in the 120 range. I see no reason why I can't get there. I've been playing golf for 9 years now and have gained distance every year. Most of it has been from improving my swing (thanks Brian) and better contact.

Have you used the speed chain? I admit that it does have my attention. It is difficult to get unbiased opinions on their own forum.

I'm a teacher / coach and I've followed the discussion around speed training in other sports from a distance. I believe there is some validity to it but I haven't seen any real data that would convince me that it is THE way to train.

Average swing speed on the tour is in the 112-115 range. You'd be surprised how much of their distance is from the extra roll the tight firm fairways provide.

I have three at my clinic- it helps but has not produced huge gains as is sometimes talked about on the forum. I went up about 5mph from 108 to 113-115. However, I don't train often enough because it makes a lot of noise for a couple of the other therapists. I would certainly get one if you really to work on your swing speed- and I have used a lot of devices over the years. It makes sense to me as a therapist and ALL of the golfers I work with like it.

Review brian's thread about power leaks because those have to be addressed. I've been working on going from a fast flipper to a better swing (FLW) and I do use the chains (when they're not too noisy)
...but I do think it is a useful addition to your golf training.

Those are just my thoughts and I don't even get a discount

Speedchain

I used Speedchain when my swing speed somehow dropped down by about 8MPH, and driving distance went to heck. It took me quite a time to get the knack of it, but it didn't take long to regain my lost distance after that. Messed up my lawn pretty good, so I took to driving out to parks at dusk to use it, so be aware that Speedchain can pose problems if you haven't got a good place to use it.

Coachwalls

If you have an area, garage is best, some industrial carpet, 9' by 9' roughly, your good to go. As for the SC forum, there are many guys that have gained
a lot of speed from the chains. You want something that promotes FLW and BRW, SC is it. The conditioning factor you get from it is great also. Get the right model, and your see great gains.

Floyd is right, Phyiscal Theripist's know the movements are all golf and keep the body performing stronger with less chance of injury when swinging
out on the course.
