Can you "Hit" with a pitch elbow, and what advantage is there to this motion????

Mizunoe Joe brought up this idea in anther thread (I believe it was hitter trying to become a swinger by diggerdog), and I have started a new thread to hear others opinions.

I will post my views as well. Let the fun begin.

I wouldn't recommend it. To keep the face on the "face of the plane" for that long before you simultanously release it i think could be very problematic. I bet you wouldn't miss it left though ;)

Jim good point on not missing left. I believe the biggest problem with "hitting" with a pitch elbow is clubhead throaway.

If you try to drive the club down and out from an elbow position that is in front of the body. You have no support for your right arm.

You see in hitting a punch elbow position is used which has the elbow at or near the side to punch the right forearm flying wedge down and out.

With a pitch elbow you have no position to punch from and no support, as a result you may punch down and out but your flat left wrist may not be able to take it and give in to wrist bend equaling clubhead throwaway.

I don't find that to be true at all - as long as the right shoulder is back and down far enough, just drive the heel of the right hand into the ball - this keeps the right wrist bent, preventing throwaway.

Max trigger delay, snap release Hit!

MizunoJoe,

I quoted you here for the last line.

You have to have very educated hands to snap release hit. The tendancy with the elbow in front of the body and a snap release is for the right wrist to straighten. Not only have I tried it, but I've had other good player's try it, since you suggested it on this forum.
Hitting with a max trigger delay, snap release requires educated hands that will push hard on pp#1 during a snap release, otherwise your cooked. Well this pattern is possible it is only for the highly trained and educated to toy with;).
