Chicago Golf Courses

I will be in Chicago tomorrow, any suggestions for a golf course on the north side? I am looking for a nice course that is affordable, around $50 or less for 18.

A few to check out...

Depending how far on the North Side. I work in lake Forest and live in Liberyville. Thunderhawk is a great course but a little bit more pricey than that (about $70ish I think). Up in Zion (near the Wisconsin Border) is a course called Shepherd's Crook. Great conditions typically and often gets only moderate play during the week. Cost should be below $50 (without a cart depending when you play).

Down the road from work there is a shorter course (maybe 6200 yds), but in usually good condition called Deerpath Golf Course.

these are the ones that come to mind for the price you mentioned...

Highland Woods is a wide open, grip it and rip it muni. Okay if you just want to get out and play somewhere cheap.

Near Highland Woods are Hilldale (a Robert Trent Jones design with excellent greens) and you can walk Mackray Memorial for about $50 on Tuesday. Mackray is the best of those three.

As already mentioned, Shepherds Crook is a great value (but quite a ride). Pine Meadow, Thunderhawk and Stonewall Orchard are outstanding but in the $75-$99 range even on Tuesday.

Cog Hill #2 (Ravines) is also a good choice and a value (but it is Southwest).

Thanks guys...It looks like Hilldale is a bit on the short side, I am leaning towards Mackray. I will be right by O'hare is there any other courses I should take a look at? Thanks, Matt.

Jim, I would like to keep driving time under 45 minutes max and the course length is not critical, I just don't like the driver/wedge courses but I would say 6500 yds at a min. Nice greens are a must, thanks.
