chipping motion for full swing

Played today (32* and wind chill but sunny) and was chipping great. I was setting my hands at address, flat left and bent right and then just bringing that unit back and extending my right arm forward while maintaining flat left and bent right to chip the ball. Very crisp. Near the end of the round, I decided to try that motion for my full swing and hit some good irons but driver was not great. QUestion: Can I utilize this chipping motion for my full swing? If so, are there adjustments I need to make in order for it to work for the driver and irons? Thannks

Chuck Evans teaches a hitter's grip at address like the one you used, flat left and bent right from the start. The full swing should, in theory at least, be the same swing as the chip. But I find that the chip motion you described works best from impact fix straight up and back down with a hitters stroke. It can work in a "full" Full driver swing but it does take some time for it to fit you comfortably. Let ball flight be the determining factor if a stroke works.

The no roll feel of angled hinging, using hitting procedure, requires closing the club face a little at address for longer irons and woods.

I had a similiar experience at the range yesterday. While working on wedge play I noticed if I shortened up my swing and concentrated on making good contact I was able to get comparable distances as with my full swing.......but with much better accuracy. I tried the same 1/2 to 3/4 swings with my 8,7 & 5 irons and got great results. I was able to get approximately the same ditances with better accuracy and with more consistant results. I did notce that ball flight was lower than normal and probably with less spin. I experimented with different ball position with the same type of swing and was able to get different trajectories with the same distance. I tried the same thing with the driver and noticed that the biggest difference was I was able to get much better contact and had a much better tempo. OK so now lets see what happens on the course.

I have fooled around with this swing and while it worked fairly well with my short irons, I kept hooking the ball as I moved it more and more forward (driver and long irons). It feels like I am always on the edge of a hook. Probably takes time to get used to but it seems hard for me to delay the release of the clubhead so I don't hook it. First, I'm not not used to swinging that way (doesnt feel as natural to me because of the lack of roll of the club). Second, I think it would work better with someone with a more upright followthru (ala Vijay, Monty, etc.)...my followthru is more flat and across the neck.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
