Place a small coin in front of the ball by an inch and a half or so. contact it the ball with the intention of hitting the coin. Do this very slowly with no hit impulse adding then increase the stroke.

Setup right (err CORRECTLY) first of course.....weight on fr. foot....ball doesn't NEED to be overly far back IMO.....I find anyway.

Then really you should be able to make a normal swing more or less. (so long as your normal swing has some lag)

Do you usually have trouble taking a divot in fr. of the ball?

...

I've had some success recently with a "drop and pivot" from the Top....(as opposed to just unwinding)....for more forward shaft lean.

i.e. from the Top, feel like you drop the club....then wait until Impact to thrust the left shoulder up. (that's what does it for me anyway)

I think the most important thing to get is what you are doing WHILE the "drop" is happening.

I don't usually have trouble taking divots. Another thing I may try is moving my aiming point more forward to make sure I keep a FLW and bent right

That's what this (below) does for me:

For me anyway.

I've also had success with Brian's divot drill from "Flipper."

You're scared to hit it thin.

Go practice on some hard pan and really strike down on it, take some divots and not worry about where the ball is going. Once you have your confidence back just hit a normal one.

You'll be good.

hitting it with pressure point or clubhead?

Is the pressure point hitting the ball and not your “clubhead” (seem like a simple statement). Are you doing your Fanning motion correctly, and if you fan where is the air flow going. (towards the ball, in front of the ball, or “behind the ball away from the target”) No matter how miniature a shot is, for individual, there should be an aiming point (where the thrust is going) along the delivery line and should work with your rhythm accumulator too.
But if you are chipping with the pivot, rather then using the hands, then you should aim the hands rather then using the above procedure.
Taking divots is a result rather then doing it as an intention, if we are forcing us to take divot intentionally, can we say that it is some form of steering (Changing the natural orbit of the club)

Yuk.

When a TGMer is hitting fat chips, he is MIXING real swinging with any stroke that includes hitting.

Just try to REALLY swing.
