Closed clubface - but why?

As per a previous post i'm having troubles with snap and very low hooks with my driver but hitting my irons pretty straight.

I know that the clubface must be closed at impact but can't work out whether it is closed prior to impact or whether it is open and i'm flipping it closed.

Checked my grip and that is 'manzella neutral'. Face looks a bit skyward at the top but not too extreme. Have had a look on video and it looks reasonably closed prior to impact and my hands are well forward...i'm 'hitting the box' and can't detect any visible flip.

Is there a way to diagnose this further?

It is driving me crazy as the root cause could be either too open a clubface or too closed !

Thanks!

Because...

The Driver presents one very different problem than any other club, because...

The ball is on a tee, and you can hit it solid coming from WAY more below the plane than any shot of the turf.

You need to stay away from "never-never land"—below plane = NO GOOD

Try this, place a towel flat on the ground behind the ball when the ball is on the tee your normal height.

Hit the ball, miss the towel. In other words, don't make a air divot.

On video it actually looks like i'm sometimes a little bit too steep rather than under plane which is why i'm also confused. Tried a NHA type swing and then just pull hooked it or hit it straight left

Driver off Deck Question

Brian:

You've often mentioned hitting driver off the deck...if I follow the above posts, is it fair to say if your swing is too far under plane, you will not be able to get the ball airborne (aka you need to either swing more left or come in steeper to get it airborne?).

Thanks
