Seems like band-aid to me.

Pretty much, unless you are an angled hinger. Until i learned how to horizontal hinge, a slightly shut face driver with low loft helped create ideal launch conditions.

How many ppl rotate em open at Address? (knowingly or not)

If you do you shouldn't, you are only adding to your problem. Rotating the face open at address will do nothing but add loft.
