Clubhead Throwaway

Hello Brian,
I occasionaly hit push slices or duck hooks. I have the impression that this is due to clubhead throwaway. I think that I'm a swinger-
but I'm not sure. Maybe I start hitting.

What's the best cure against throwaway for me?

Thanks a lot

Axel

Club head throw away is such a powerful urge when swinging a driver, GD big head firing at such a tiny ball. You want to feel like you are chopping a tree with a big ax with that driver, don't ya?

Well I found a way to satisfy that urge...:throw it !! But AFTER you sustain the lag.

I fire my hands to my aiming point, which for me is to my outside (left) thigh, with my shoulder coming down and through to the ball. Once at aiming point I “throw” or release the club past impact. Ball goes far. My four iron gets a big kick out of this and those golfing endorphins in your head will be satisfied with the throw away feeling of the club head.

Brian, this is what I feel, is this even close to proper?

That is a very variation. Drive loading...

Mike Austin technique...

When you throw, are you feeling more pressure from your right thumpad?

More pressure from the trigger finger?

Not Brian, but......

Homer Kelley described an underhanded pitching motion as does long-drive legend Mike Austin....BM has described an underhand javelin throw......

When throwing to Aiming Point... it may be PP#1, but I feel more of a karate chop wrist cock more than anything else coming down out of the slot toward Aim Point, if that makes sense.

After Aim Point, PP #3, my trigger finger, is practically the sole source of pressure into impact, it feels like it’s the only contact on the club, although it isn’t really. Oddly or not, I use PP#1, the heel pad contact with thumb, to monitor the club on the backswing. I feel, maybe wrongly, the left thumb pushing into and upward into the pad on the way up and over shoulder.

I have PP#1 contact on the downswing but nothing like PP#3, which hits like a rocket. Best thing to happen to my swing this summer.

I know the "chop" is supposed to be from the left hand, but visually while practicing, it is done by the right hand, wrist bent backwards coming into the rear quadrant of the ball. Maybe the description is wrong but this is what I feel.

I once asked a respected pro that knows Mike Austin quite well what was the most powerful move that Mike Austin taught him.

He said, 'Tae Kwon Do action at the beginning of down swing.'.....;)

well now, I feel so much better at my new, "found in the dirt" (via TGM forums) swing, if im in such good company as Austin. Thanks for making me smile, :D

Hello Brian,

why do always talk about "swinging to the right" or "left" instead of "coming from the inside" or "outside". Is there a special reason for this or is it just your personal taste?

Ragman: Been good talking to you. I just picked up this months Golf Digest ... low and behold, Millers is talking about a karate chop down into the ball. Gee... Miller reads this forum..hahahaha...cool.

BTW, had a great round hitting the ball today, I really was aware of PP#1 today, felt like it was a key to my swing today. Take Care.
