Hey

Strong grip here, so here goes. The right wrist bends back and the left wrist is flat/bowed at the top (club hooded)and keep that position coming down swinging out to right field to keep the face open a bit? Is that the same or close to the twistaway drill or am I totally off?

Thanks

Thanks, I've been playing for 12 yrs 6-7 handi and usually hit a draw (sometimes a hook) and my thought was to swing out to right field as far as I could (the more the better) but here lately I was told with the stronger grip I need to open the face on the backswing and cup the left wrist to keep everything square, and that has not been working and have been getting some shankers, probably from still swinging to the right with an open face(I don't know) but I have never been a slicer and I think I have gotten away from some things that made me a pretty decent ball striker.

well, when you have a strong grip, it can become very difficult because if you release the club normally the ball goes quick left. so what most good players who have strong grips do, is hold off the release and actually hit fades. brett wetterich, david duval (when he was best player in world) and boo weekley are good examples. so yes you do have to keep the balde MORE open. but that does't stop any of the above mentioned players, and quite a few more, having a FLAT left wrist at the top.

if you cup the left wrist, then you will inevitably get the face even more open, which could be where the hanks are coming from. my advice would be to weaken the grip a little (how strong was your previous grip? manzella neutral?) and work for a FLW at top.

as for swinging out to right field, a stronger grip would only increase the chances of the ball going left. so you start playing around with things like cupping the wrist, and holding the blade open and other things which mess up the motion.

hope this helps

Maybe the words swinging out to the right so much isn't so accurate, maybe I'm trying to say with the flat/bowed left wrist I can actually move my hands at the ball while keeping tilt etc.....My grip is strong but it's not like an Azinger or Z.Johnson (probably 3 knucks)

I've been watching episode 4 over and over again, my pivot is pretty good, my right shoulder moves down on plane and my right hip does not kick out, overall pretty good. But now we have been shanking em and I am confused on this. If I move my right shoulder down on plane and hands go towards the ball I shank it, any ideas without seeing my swing for now? Maybe to much from the inside?

Thanks
