What happened to this guy? Wins the Players 4 years ago and now struggles to break 80 and hit it 241 off the tee today!

Brian: was his swing bastardized? I read an article that said he went to a Hank Haney guy and then to Butch. I am sure he is very screwed up. What would you do to fix him?

I gave Craig lessons for a little over a year when he was in college.

He was a good playing "Flipper." I de-flipped him. Just watch those two chip-ins they'll show this week over and over. Brian Manzella/Ben Doyle specials.

He learn a lot from me—but I learned a bunch teaching him. I learned that you better watch what you say, because someone MIGHT do it. He over-did everything I taught him.

I could EASILY help Craig now, you can see that the "big names" can't. If he keeps playing this poorly, I might give him a ring. I would love to correct my mistakes and help this guy.

Oh, BTW, this was 1988 and 1989, and I teach a wee bit better than I did back then.

Way back when, I tried to get everyone to "max out." Everyone to double-shift. And I really didn't have a plane line vs. clubface idea relative to the pivot, anywhere near what I knew even in the early 90's.

Craig even over did the waggle and forward press.

I really teach about 5x's better than I taught last spring (2005), and 15x's better than the spring before. I ALWAYS evaluate EVERYTHING I teach, How I teach, etc. etc. And I continue to get better everyday.

Can you imagine thinking that you wasn't ever going to upgrade your core knowledge or even your approach?? I'd quit first.

Brian,
I'm a bit out of the loop regarding the swings on tour today. Who do you think you could help the most given the chance regarding swing changes?
Who would you want me to watch and try to copy?
Geaux Tigers !! NCAA
Go Blue !! NIT

I spent two days at the Sony Open this year, and a lot of time on the practice range observing player's golf swings and ball flight. A friend and I watched Craig Perks for over an hour one day, and he was hitting it better than anyone else on the range that day - by quite a bit. He has a very simple swing, quiet and stable lower body. It was clear to both of us that he was the best ballstriker out there on the range, and Adam Scott was hitting about twenty feet away, as was Vijay. I dont know his GIR stats for this year or last year, but if they are as poor as you might guess, this guy's problem has got to be more in his head than in his swing.

Brian, he is using a parallel plane action, but I still wonder how he could hit it so pure on the range and so poorly on the golf course? Without the cause being totally mental that is. And Tiger seems to be having the same problem, he is telling his buddies and they seem to concur to the media, that he is puring it on the range but struggling on the course. Any idea why?

Brian has always told me there is a difference between what will hold up on the range and playing with your friends

AND

what will hold up during tournament pressure.

He just started going back to Kelnhofer about a month ago. George will get him back on the same track he had him when he won the players.

Just read this:
Perks was a relative unknown when he finished eagle, birdie, chip-in par in 2002 to win The Players Championship. Good for him, but surely he's never lived up to the prestige; in 109 tournaments since then, Perks has missed 71 cuts, a whopping 65 percent, and he's earned just $1,247,717. Currently, Perks has missed the cut in 16 straight events, dating to last year.
