Cures for fat shots

All of a sudden I've started to hit numerous fat shots. I'd appreciate suggestions as to causes and cures. Thank you.

Certainly could be flipping. 'Confessions of a Former Flipper' by Brian Manzella is an excellent video whether this is the cause or not.

I tend to hit the ball fat when I get too steep on the downswing. Make sure the right shoulder is going down the plane, not out and over.

Try to get your right hip past the ball(line of sight) before release.

Here is the reason YOU are doing it:

You have recently 'improved' your "flip piont."

But, your radius is set for your old flip.

So...keep your left shoulder moving away from the ball while you keep your hands forward—ie NO flip.

And like MizJoe says: get that right hip past the ball!

Hit 'em good.

Brian, I've seen several posts where you talk about the left shoulder moving away from the ball. Does the left shoulder work rotationally away from the ball or should you feel like the left shoulder is moving up vertically toward the sky?

Wow, I tried moving the left shoulder up and back and absolutely flushed the ball today. I think I was rotating my left shoulder on too flat a plane.

Thank you all for your responses. Mizuno Joe and Brian, can you expand upon getting my right hip past the ball? I don't understand the timing and direction of this. Is this demonstrated in any of the videos? I have them all, but don't recall seeing this . Thank you.

P.S.- I recall that on one of my fat shots, I still had my weight on my back foot. Would the movement of the right hip (once I understand it) prevent this from happening?

Look at Brian's signature video in any of his posts for a demo. Getting the right hip past the ball is the same as moving your tail bone toward the target, and it will get your weight onto your left side.

Shootin4par,

I have the ball under my left armpit for all shots and vary the width of my stance by changing the placement of my right foot.

MizunoJoe, thanks for the elaboration.
