Well, it's the very same type of principle. Although the putter face at impact and seperation is much more important since it's somewhat difficult to get draw spin or fade spin with the putter, especially if you hit the sweetspot. So really, the putter face is what to focus on. If you push a putt, it's almost all likely due to that putter face was open at impact/seperation. The teachers that teach the 'old laws' of putting would say a push was due to a poor putting stroke path.
