Da Chicken Wing

Took a video of my wife and she chicken wings every shot. What causes the chicken wing, how does it effect the shot, and how do you fix it? Muchas thanks!

Curtis

PS She is fairly athletic and when she gets a hold of one she's the longest on our course by far.

Open face, flipping, over acceleration, left shoulder not high enough, making the club go forward and up, too tight a grip, lots of lag (sadlowski) are some causes. Usually its a bad thing but obviously can work for some. Have her squeeze something between her arms and work on the swivel and se if anything, particulary the ball flight, gets better.

Thanks Kevin. I was wondering about the open face as well as she tends to leave the ball right, especially straight pushes. She also grips the club way too tight. I've been showing her the swivel today trying to get her to rotate her left arm more, I'll have her try something between her arms (like a ball I assume?). Thanks again

You might like to have her try making some (full) left arm only swings - no ball needed.

She will soon learn the feelings associated with a proper golfing motion.

A lack of arm swing in the motion (going from left arm across the chest to right arm across the chest), with the intention to keep the clubface square to the ball flight is what I see mostly with new golfers that are athletic causing the delicious chicken wing.
